Google Begins To Shift Indexing To Mobile From Desktop | Surge Marketing Solutions

Google is beginning a transition, with the first processes being made to change search indexing from the main desktop websites to mobile web versions.

In the past, Google has only ever experimented with this shift, meaning the whole transition of shifting indexing to mobile websites may take a long time to go into full effect. In the coming months, Google will begin with what they call ‘small scale experiments’ to try and convince the company that the indexing shift to mobile proves a great experience for users. If the experience is proved efficient for users, Google will be proceeding with the transition to mobile search indexing. Google’s product manager, Doantam Phan, has written in a blog post: “Although our search index will continue to be a single index of websites and apps, our algorithms will eventually primarily use the mobile version of a site’s content to rank pages from the site.”

Here are three top tips for when it comes to optimising websites for mobile indexing:


When uploading images to the website make sure they are the correct size for being viewed easily, as large images on a mobile website can slow down the website significantly. Also you should ask your web designer to remove and strip out all unnecessary and unneeded characters from your website’s source code that won’t affect the functionality of the website.

Optimisation: There is less room to work with when it comes to mobile SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages), so you need to make sure that your website’s page titles and Meta description are concise and straight to the point. This will give GoogleBot a quicker and better understanding of your website and what the website is about.

Mobile Design:

Never use flash – Apple killed flash for mobiles, meaning that many mobile website users won’t be able to view flash elements as it has been removed, so it is better to use HTML5 or Java. Design your website so it is easy to navigate with fingers and thumbs, enabling easy scrolls and taps throughout the mobile site.
